Jeff Rogers is the current Chairman of Alston Moor Historical Society. A retired Computer Systems Engineer, Jeff initially chose the printing industry on leaving school and worked for 19 years in that trade. He has also worked for 7 years in steel stockholding. Redundancy caused him to enter Further and then Higher Education during his 40’s culminating in a Computer Science and Business Administration Degree with Combined Honours from Aston University, Birmingham. This led on to a career in IT spanning some 15 years in several disciplines. He is now involved with several societies and projects in Alston yet still finds time for an occasional game of golf and sorting PC problems from time to time.

Alastair Robertson has lived in Alston for more than 25 years. He is a keen local historian and has published several books on a variety of subjects, ranging from the nearby Roman fort of Epiacum to a general history of Alston Moor. He is the author of ‘The Foreigners in the Hills’ the story of the Vieille Montagne in this area.

Roger Baltus holds a MSc of Civil Engineering and Architecture from the Liège’s University in 1981.

After several experiences in architecture offices in Belgium and France, he joined Umicore (former Vieille Montagne Zinc Bâtiment) in 1984, where he was assigned to different R&D, Marketing and Sales functions. He is part of the Business Unit Building Products Executive Committee since 1999. He is appointed Head of Business Expansion department in 2002, than Commercial Director South Europe and far distant Markets in 2007. He's in charge of Business Unit Building Products Communication and Public Relations worldwide since 2013.

Peter Jackson is Chairman of the Nenthead Mines Conservation Society. He has been interested in the history and preservation of mines in the Nenthead area since his teens. Over the past fifty years he has done much to develop and maintain public interest in the centuries-old history of lead and zinc mining in this area. To concentrate on the Vieille Montagne is a relatively new challenge for him.

Armando Angelucci is the retired Honorary Italian Consul for the North of England, and a confirmed Anglophile who has lived here for many years. He has visited Italy on two occasions recently to gather information about his fellow countrymen and made contact with the Macugnaga Mining Society, in the village in the Alps where a number of the Italian VM miners lived.

Daniel Sobanski, M.A., is a freelance historian and part time guide at the LVR Industrial Museum of the Rhineland, housed in the former Altenburg Zinc Works at Oberhausen. He is project assistant and one of the curators of the scheduled new permanent exhibition. He is currently researching the economic history of the Vieille Montagne and the development of technology and working conditions within the zinc industry.

Jonathan Lowy is technical marketing manager of today’s VMZINC in the UK, now part of UMICORE, based in Hertfordshire. Although the Vieille Montagne was one of four Belgian metal producers that merged into Umicore in 1989, it still has an independent identity and, appropriately enough for the VM, the headquarters of Umicore is in Belgium.
